The Downtown Houston convention package continues to boom with the addition of eight properties and nearly 3,000 rooms by 2017. These hotels, all just a few blocks from the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB), make Houston even more competitive in the quest for major citywide conventions.
• Marriott Marquis - connected to GRB, opening January 2017 with 1,000 rooms
• JW Marriott - opening in fall 2014 with 323 rooms
• Springhill Suites - opening in mid-2015 with 166 rooms
• Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites - opening fall 2015 with 300 rooms
• Hyatt Place – opening January 2016 with 261 rooms
• Aloft Houston Downtown –opening summer 2016
• Hotel Alessandra – opening in mid/late 2016 - a 250-room luxury boutique property
• Holiday Inn Hotel – remodeling has begun for the 215-room hotel
The Houston Airport System is the sixth largest in the United States and offers unparalleled access to international markets. Clients can fly nonstop to Houston from London, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul and Stavanger.
Additionally, thanks to the addition of new airlines like Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airlines, Air China and Korean Air, there is also direct access to Doha, Moscow, Dubai, Beijing and Seoul. Furthermore, United Airlines flies non-stop to 28 destinations in Mexico and 26 in the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, plus 10 in Canada.
At Houston´s second airport, William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) construction of a new international terminal by Southwest Airlines is well underway. Hobby Airport will soon be Houston´s second international gateway as Southwest Airlines plans to launch international flights with service reaching destination in the Caribbean, Mexico and the northern cities of South America in 2016.
